The emperor called Birbal, a clever courtier of Emperor Akbar, to solve the case. Birbal visited the neighbor and enquired him about the well.

Birbal visited his neighbor to inquire about the well. The cunning neighbor repeated his assertion, saying, "I sold the well, not the water. Therefore, he cannot use the water from my well." Birbal responded, "Since you have sold the well, you cannot keep the water in it. You either need to remove the water or use it all up. Otherwise, the water will belong to the farmer." Realizing that his clever trick had backfired, the neighbor apologized and went home.

Moral of the Story:

  • Cheating will not get you anything.
  • Don't try to Cheat. You will end up paying for it regardless of how smart you think you are.
  • Don't be greedy about anything.
