up. He caught the mouse and said. “You silly fool! You disturbed my sleep. I
am going to kill you”.
The mouse looked at the lion and plea in his face and replied humbly. “Oh
king of the forest! Please do have mercy on this small creature! I have
committed a mistake. If you excuse and pardon me I will surely repay you
in future”. The lion was astonished by the bravery of the mouse and he let the mouse
free. Days Passed.
Once, when the lion went for a hunt he got trapped in a net. He started roaring. The mouse heard the roaring and thought, “The lion must have been
trapped. I should help him”. He ran to the net and started gnawing. Soon, the net gave away and the lion got free. They became good
friends.

2. The Greedy Dog
Once, there was a dog searching for food. It got a bone from a
meat shop. The dog took the bone and went towards its house. It reached at
the bridge of the river which was near his house. The dog saw his image in the water and mistook that some other
dog is there in the water with a bone in its mouth.
The greedy dog made a plan to snatch away the bone from the
other dog. It opened the mouth for snatching away the bone.
Alas!, the bone in its mouth fell down in the river. The poor dog lost its bone and went home crying.

3. The Talkative Tortoise
Once there was a tortoise lived in a pond. Two Swans used to visit the same pond everyday. The tortoise was very talkative. It used to talk to swans for a very long time. Tortoise and Swans become good friends. All of them were happy. Once there was a drought and it lasted for long time.
As a result, the water in the pond got dry. There was
no water for them to drink. The swans decided to move
out to some other place. The tortoise asked swans to
take him alone with them. The swans suggested a plan, according to which tortoise
would have to hold a piece of stick by its mouth and the
swans will hold its two ends of that stick.
They told the tortoise not to speak otherwise it would
fall and die. The tortoise understood and promised them
not to open its mouth during that journey. while crossing
a village, many saw the tortoise and got
surprised.
They shouted at the tortoise and made fun of him.
Tortoise got angry and opened its mouth to speak. But as
it opened its mouth, it fell down on the ground. The swans
were very shocked to see their friend's end. The tortoise
died because of its impatience and foolishness.

The Hare and the Tortoise
The tortoise knew that he could not run fast like the
hare. He thought, "Why not have some fun? I am not worried
about failure. " So he said, " I am ready for the race"
and accepted the challenge. The forest friends fixed a day
for the race.
On the Fixed day, both the hare and the tortoise arrived
at the starting point. They had to run up to a big banyan
tree, nearly a mile away. It was really a long
distance for the tortoise. The race started. The tortoise
began to move forward slowly. The hare ran at great
speed.
After running for some time, the hare stopped to take a
rest. The tortoise was far behind. "It will take him a
long time to catch me", thought the hare. He laid down
under a shady tree and soon fell asleep. Meanwhile, the
tortoise kept moving slowly and steadily. On the way, he
saw the hare in deep sleep.
He continued to move and finally reached the winning
point. The hare woke up after some time and began to run fast.
But it was too late now. When he reached the end point, he
saw the tortoise waiting, with a smiling face.
The hare hung his face in shame.

5. The Honest Woodcutter
The Woodcutter immediately searched, but could not see the axe. He sat down on the river bank and started crying. He said, "Dear god I dropped my axe in the water. It was my only source of lively hood. Please help me, god please give me back my axe back."
The woodcutter saw the god mercury rising from the river. He heard the woodcutter's prayer and went back to the river to find the axe.
He came back with a gold axe and asked, woodcutter, is this your axe?" the woodcutter refused. Mercury went back in and got a silver axe. "Is this your axe?", the woodcutter refused again. The third time, Mercury returned with an iron axe. The woodcutter took his axe happily and profusely thanked Mercury.
Mercury was happy with the honesty and gave him all the three aces. The woodcutter went home happily. Soon village heard about his good fortune story.
One greedy friend of woodcutter went to the river bank the next day and hide his axe behind the tree near the river bank. As he sat on the river bank crying, god mercury appeared.
Mercury asked him why he was crying. He told mercury that he had lost his axe. Mercury went back to the river and returned with a gold axe. The man took the axe. Mercury was upset with his dishonesty and took back the gold axe from him and scared him. He ran back to the village without taking his axe.

6. Two Cats and A Monkey
Once upon a time, there lived two cats near a village.
They were close friends. They played together, slept together, and went
everywhere together. Suddenly one day there was no food for both of
them. The two cats went for the search of food, they found a
loaf of bread.
They both wanted the bread as they were very
hungry. They began to fight over it. one cat said, "I found it
first its mine." Another cat said, "No I found it first, give it to
me."
A monkey in the tree seeing them fighting said to
himself, 'It will be great if I get that bread. It looks
yummy.". He came to the cats and said, "Friends why are you
quarreling? I will settle your fight". Both the cats
agreed to his proposal.
The Monkey split the bread into two uneven
pieces. One-piece was large and the other piece was
small. Then he ate a portion from the larger piece. But this made the other piece larger. So it took a bite from the other piece. likewise, the
monkey ate the whole loaf of bread. It climbed back the tree laughing at the
cats. Two foolish cats couldn't able to eat anything.

7. The Thirsty Crow
It was a hot summer afternoon. The crow was very thirsty he flew here and
there in search of water, but he couldn't find
water anywhere. As he looked around, all
the lakes were dry. He could not see even a drop
of water.
The crow decided to fly in another
direction. As he flew a mile, He saw a pot lying on the
ground. The crow happily flew down to the pot and
peaked in with great hope but the water was at
the bottom of the pot. The thirty crow tried hard to put his beak
inside the pot but could not reach the
water.
The water in the pot was very low. He tried to
move the pot but it was heavy. He could not even
tilt the pot alone. The crow began thinking of
ways to get water from the pot. When he looked around, he saw a few stones
lying on the ground suddenly he had an
idea. He started picking up stones in his beak one by
one and dropped them in the pot.
As the stones went down the pot, the water
level started to rise. Now the crow was able to drink
water. He drank the water happily and flew back to his
tree.

8. The Grasshopper and the Ant
It was a beautiful spring day, a grasshopper was
playing in a green grassy field. In that field he noticed a line of ants marching
along carrying some grains of wheat. The
grasshopper asked, “ Where are you going with that
big load?”.
“We are taking these grains to our nest,” said
the Ant. “But it's such a beautiful day, come and
have fun with me,” said the
grasshopper. “No, I think you should come work with us it's
going to be a long winter with lots of snow. You
had better start storing your food now” replied
the ant.
“Why worry about the winter? It's only spring,
and there are lots of food everywhere,” said the
grasshopper. The grasshopper did not listen to ant. All
through the spring, the grasshopper did nothing
except eat, sleep and play. He became quite
fat.
Then the summer came. Ants were busy collecting
food for winter, but the grasshopper did nothing
but eat, sleep and play. He became even
fatter!. Later Autumn came. Ant advised grasshopper to
collect food for winter but he didn't listen.
“Winter is not here yet, and when it comes, I am
sure I will be able to find some
food”.
A few weeks later, winter came, and the snow
began to fall. Just as the ants said, the snow was
very deep. Ants were all snug(warm and comfortable)in their
nest with lots of good food to eat.
The grasshopper, however, had trouble finding
food. He was very hungry and miserably cold all
winter. By the time winter had ended. The grasshopper had learned a valuable lesson.
Next spring onward, the grasshopper went out to
gather food with the ant.

9. The Wolf and the Goat
The wolf and seven little goats story |
Once there lived a goat with seven kids near
a forest. Everyday the kids went to the forest
to play. One day, the kids were noticed by a
wolf. It secretly followed the kids to find their
home.
The next day, before leaving home the Goat
told its kids to be alert and it would come
back soon. Soon after the Goat left, the Fox reached the
home. It called from outside, " Kids open the
door, Mommy is back". The innocent Kids opened the
door. The Wolf attacked the little ones. He ate six
little goats.
His tummy was full, he burped and left home.
When the mother returned, she was shocked to see
the door open. The kids were nowhere to find.
One of the little goat came running to his
mother. He said everything that
happened. The Mother goat went out searching for
the Wolf. They saw him Sleeping under a tree
near the house.
The mother goat very quietly went near him and
slit open his tummy and took her kids from the
tummy and filled it with big stones
and stitched it back with tread and
needle.
The wolf was so thirsty when he wake up. He
went near the well to drink water. The moment
he bent down to drink water, he couldn't
handle the weight and felt into the
well. Atlas the wolf died and the goats lived very
happily.

10.The Bear and The Two Friends
Shyman and Ram were good friends. One day they were passing through a forest. On their way, they saw a bear coming towards them. Shyam ran and climbed up a nearby tree.
Ram did not know the skill of climbing a tree. But he Showed presence of mind. He had heard that wild animals do not hurt dead bodies.
So he lay down still on the ground. He closed his eyes and held back his breath. The bear came to Ram. He sniffed Ram's Ears. He thought that the man was dead and went away.
When the bear was out of sight, Shyam climbed down the tree. He went to Ram and asked, "What did the bear tell you into your ear?". Ram said, "The Bear told me to keep away from a selfish friend like you".
