ஒரு நாள் நாய் ஒன்று உணவு தேடி அலைந்து கொண்டு இருந்தது. ஒரு கரி கடையில் இருந்து அதற்கு ஒரு எலும்பு துண்டு கிடைத்தது.

எலும்பு துண்டை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அதன் வீட்டிற்கு சென்றுகொண்டிருந்தது. வீட்டிற்கு செல்லும் வழியில் ஒரு ஓடை வந்தது.

அந்த ஓடையை கடக்கும்போது நாய்க்கு தண்ணிரில் தன் நிழல் தெரிந்தது, தண்ணிரில் வேறுஒரு நாய் எலும்பு துண்டுடன் இருப்பதாக நினைத்துக்கொண்டது.

பேராசைபிடித்த நாய் அந்த எலும்புத்துண்டையும் சாப்பிட ஆசைப்பட்டது, அந்த நாயை விரட்ட, வாயினை திறந்த நாய் தன் எலும்பை ஆற்றில் தவற விட்டது.

பின் வேறு வழி இல்லாமல் தன் வீட்டிற்கு பசியுடன் திரும்பி சென்றது.
